Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Nassau Education Foundation - $359.90
We are very fortunate to work in a school district that provides one-to-one technology for our middle school students. The students have access to educational programs on the computer such as Lexia, CommonLit, and USA Test Prep that read aloud to the students. For each student to have a set of headphones, this will benefit them greatly and cut out any distractions as they are working. The students work at different paces and in a classroom, they are sitting very close to their neighbors. By providing headphones to the students, they can focus and complete their assignment independently.
Providing headphones for each of our students will allow them have personalized access to our computer programs that assist with individualized learning. Students work in small group rotations daily and providing headphones for the students at the Computer small group will allow the student to successfully complete the assignment without any distractions. Many of our students have ESE accommodations that require passages and questions to be read aloud to them. The programs provide that for them, but in order to be successful, they need headphones to concentrate and focus on the passage being read.
We work in a very low-income area and many students cannot provide their own headphones in our classrooms. This would take the financial burden off of them and provide them with a tool that would positively enhance their learning.
Currently, there are 6 Middle School English/Language Arts classrooms at HMSHS. The students work in small groups each day, with 6-8 in each group. This would give each classroom a set of 30 headphones for small groups and give extra in case we have any broken or stolen.
