Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to see that every student will have the opportunity to spiral review critical content (annually assessed standards) using leveled, engaging, high-interest, non-fiction texts (Rainbow Resources Max Axiom) that invite, excite, and ignite passion for learning.

What will be done with my students

The 5th grade Science team wants to use the Rainbow Resources Max Axiom texts to aid in the spiral review of annually assessed state standards. These text will be used during teacher led centers, paraprofessional led centers, peer to peer centers and after school tutoring. Because these texts are age appropriate, high-interest, and non-fiction, they excite 5th graders with topics, like "Journey Through the Digestive System" and "The Dynamic World of Chemical Reactions" and more. These texts engage even the most reluctant readers. Moreover, their high interest topics match Annually Assessed Science Standards. Reading in the 32-page books contain unusual or amazing facts, and text to real world examples.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of these texts in the classroom can be quantified by the increased student excitement and engagement. With higher engagement, students will be more likely to recall Annually Assessed Standards on the annual standardized assessment (FCAT).
