Goal

The goal for this grant is to add another layer of technology into the classroom. I love having the ViewSonic with overhead projector in my classroom. However, I would love to have a tool that will help switch seamlessly from one screen to another.

What will be done with my students

If granted this request, I plan to implement the new technology in my classroom immediately. I have the ability to access the electronic textbook using the ViewSonic, but when I am showing reading and highlighting strategies to my students, I do not like to turn my back on them to highlight on the ViewSonic.
The tablet stand connects directly to the ViewSonic and when the iPad is plugged in, I will have the ability to use the camera on the iPad which will show up on the ViewSonic. This will be extremely useful when demonstrating a dissection or other techniques that might be challenging for the students to see otherwise. I will also use the document camera to go over homework questions and proper note taking techniques.

Benefits to my students

If I have this extra benefit of technology in my classroom, it will definitely benefit my visual learners. Rather then tell students how they should be taking notes and completing labs, I can show students how they are supposed to be working. I will be able to bring that extra layer of learning to my classroom.
It is far more beneficial for students if a teacher models a task and then allows students to practice. Studies show that proper note taking helps students to remember what they are learning along with teaching each other.
As a teacher, teaching my students proper note taking and reading strategies is an area where I need to improve upon. If I have these tools in my arsenal, I believe it will benefit my students.

I am requesting $479.45 to cover the cost of a 32 GB Apple iPad and a Belkin tablet stand that will connect to the ViewSonic in my classroom.
