The goal of this grant is to purchase decodable texts that will facilitate us moving our below grade level students to on grade level. The requested tests from this grant will coincide with our core phonics curriculum allowing the students to work on the same scope and sequence skills, just at a text that is on their level first to bridge to on level texts during each week.
Students will use the decodable readers weekly and UFLI lessons from the teacher manual in small group teacher led centers. A group of 6 students will use one decodable book for each student weekly during the entire school year. This grant will allow every classroom in first grade at Wildlight to use the requested texts. The UFLI lessons will be used for all first grade students with the identified need of explicit phonics instruction in centers and/or reading intervention times.
The decodable text will allow the students to continue to remain on the scope and sequence of Saxon phonics core curriculum. These books will bridge the reading, sight words, fluency and comprehension of lower performing students to become on grade level. We will use these books as a base for these students who have been identified as having this need. These books will build from low level to on level text each week with every first grade classroom at Wildlight.
Item 1 is 20 sets of classroom lower level saxon phonics readers. Each set includes 26 books that follow our core curriculum skills throughout the year. 1 set of 26 decodable readers costs $55.15.
The UFLI Teacher Manual is a science of reading research based phonics program to also help bridge the gap of our lower level readers to be on level.
