The goal of this project is to provide students with opportunities to move productively throughout the day while supporting their educational learning, social emotional needs and developmental growth. Research shows that movement improves concentration, relieves stress and increases learning. These materials will help students to develop both their fine motor and gross motor skills in the classroom environment, as well as provide opportunities for students to move productively. They will help to engage students in their learning and reinforce the skills learned in a fun and exciting way. I want to give students an amazing first year to their educational career and a reason to be excited about coming to school while also providing them opportunities to move. I believe that teaching students how to move and have fun while learning can spark the excitement that students need to stay engaged and love learning!
This grant would help to provide hands-on, engaging materials that would excite students about learning while also meeting their need to move and develop motor skills, both this year and for classes in the future. The idea behind this grant is to give students the opportunity to learn in a hands-on classroom, meet students where they are and allowing students to practice and review content for all subjects in fun and memorable ways. For example fine motor manipulatives and puzzles will help students develop the skills and build muscle strength needed to properly hold a pencil and form letters. The jumping hoops would be used to help build a students concentration, coordination and body control, while reading words or jumping out sounds. Stepping stones would be used to count, order numbers and identify numbers that are greater or less. These items would excite and engage students while making education fun and memorable.
If this project is funded, it would greatly benefit all students. Students would experience the excitement of moving while learning and having fun; all of which will lead to increased engagement, focus and learning. Moving and learning go hand in hand giving students these materials and teaching them the educational value would better enable students to achieve higher levels of retention, focus and social wellness. I want my students to be excited to come to school, engaged in learning, and have a fun educational experience. I know this grant would help make that happen!
This project would benefit my current class of 18 students, my future classes, and potentially other kindergarten classes. I plan to share the ideas and materials with my Kindergarten team. Our grade-level plans together and we borrow/share personal materials regularly.
