Our goal at Emma Love Hardee Elementary is to help promote positive behavior through various techniques. We are beginning to see an increased amount of students that are hyperactive, easily overwhelmed, and have difficulty controlling their emotions. Often times, when a student begins to escalate due to frustration or sensory overload he/she is unable to regulate their system to help return them to a calm regulated state, which would allow them to continue their learning. We would like to provide a space for every classroom (36 total) to have a sensory break/calming space to facilitate the student being able to regulate them self and come back to the learning environment.

5th Grade Trip to Kennedy Space Center

I know that I have submitted a grant for the 5th Grade Kindness Club, but after speaking to Kim Lunt and several 5th grade teachers, we wanted to submit this as well. The goal is to invite all 5th Grade FIT (Families in Transition) students and all 5th Grade ESOL students on a field trip to the Kennedy Space Center in January or February of 2025. This trip would take place on a day off of school, either the teacher planning day, Martin Luther King Day or President's Day so that these students do not miss a day of instruction, no subs are needed and the bus would not be pulled from a regular route. The idea for this field trip has stemmed from working closely with both our FIT and ESOL students and realizing that none of them have ever been to the Kennedy Space Center. My current FIT/ ESOL 5th graders were working on their African American History projects and many were so excited to learn about Katherine Johnson, the African American mathematician behind the movie Hidden Figures. I believe it would be so powerful for these students to have something to work towards the first semester of school. The students would be invited in August and told about the trip. In order to attend, they would need to have less than 10% absences and an A or B in conduct. Many of our FIT students are struggling with attendance and also with conduct, at times. This could help improve both of those areas as well as exposing these students to a trip of a lifetime.

Breakout EDU is an immersive learning games platform. Using the kits and the digital platform for the facilitation of games, students will use teamwork and critical thinking skills to solve a series of challenging puzzles in order to open the locked box (either physical or digital). Challenges are customized to address a variety curricular areas. Students reflect on their experience following each challenge. These games will provide learning opportunities to help gifted students master challenging curricula and meet state standards in core academic subjects. With the use of Breakout EDU games, the student will demonstrate ownership of the learning to be engaged in content. In addition, students will exhibit and reflect on the 4Cs of learning (Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Communication) The Breakout games will be used with elementary gifted students in grades 1-5.

Every year, Emma Love Hardee partners with our local 4-H Extension Program to conduct a month long study of Embryology. We use incubators to develop chickens in our classrooms. 4-H supplies eggs, incubators, chicken feed, and chicken scratch. This grant would allow us the funds to purchase materials needed for teachers to continue to participate in this annual project. Schoolwide STEM - Let's Get Hands-On!

Rather than submit several small grants, YPS has combined five requests into a single submission. (A few YPS teachers with larger projects are submitting individual grant requests as well.) Kelley MacCabe, Media Specialist, will execute the grant funds and distribute requested materials to teachers.
Last year, we applied for a Navy grant to develop our school's STEM program. They were able to fulfill two-thirds of our grant request.
Today, we are asking for...
1- STEM kits to complete this grant for each teaching pod
2- STEM kits to complete this grant for the Library
3- Replacement humidity meters to support our Embryology program
4- Specific STEM Materials for four Classrooms:
Circuit & Logic activities for Ms. Marlow's 2nd grade classroom
Engineering & Robotics activities for Ms. Dozier's 2nd grade classroom
Garden STEM sets to be shared by all Kindergarten classrooms (Ms. Foose)
Construction kits for Ms. Emerson's 1st & 2nd grade ESE classroom
5- Noise-cancelling headphones for use by students with sensory challenges
Yulee Primary's Whole School Strategy for introducing STEM activities to students:
A- During weekly visits to the Library, students experience a variety of STEM materials which they can use to complete engineering challenges or build creatively. These activities rotate throughout the year and build student problem-solving skills and develop frustration tolerance.
B- Teachers are encouraged to use STEM materials as a learning opportunity when inclement weather requires indoor recess. This free time can become a source of fun, hands-on learning if teachers have ready access to grade-appropriate STEM materials.
C- Teachers are also encouraged to use STEM Parties as incentives/rewards, motivating students to meet their educational goals.
D- Each year, the school hosts a Family STEAM Night in April. Several hundred students and family members come together to try a variety of activities, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
YPS Current STEM Goals:
1- We would like to provide each four-classroom Teaching Pod with 4 STEM activity kits, giving teachers and students immediate access to STEM materials when they have a class celebration, indoor recess, and as incentives for early finishers. Each grade level will have different STEM activities, so that students experience new challenges as they move up through the grade levels. [2/3 of these STEM kits have already been provided by the Navy Grant.]
2- We would like to increase the Library’s STEM resources, for everyday use during Library classes. These activities will also be utilized at the annual Family STEAM Night, at schoolwide Positive Behavior and Accelerated Reader Celebrations, and as additional checkout materials for teachers. [2/3 of these STEM kits have already been provided by the Navy Grant.]
3- In 2019, The Nassau Foundation Grant provided our school with Embryology materials. Since that time, 42 classrooms and approximately 750 students have utilized the materials to hatch chicks in their classrooms. Most of the grant-purchased materials are self-sustaining. Only the humidity meters have failed over time. We are seeking to replace the humidity meters so that teachers can continue check out full egg-care kits from the Library.
4- In addition, four teachers have expressed special interest in bringing STEM activities into their classrooms. We are including their requests in our grant.
5- Several of our students have sensory challenges that make loud settings very difficult (in the cafeteria, at assemblies, during PE, and in some cases, throughout the school day). YPS is a Title One school, and many of our families cannot afford to provide noise-cancelling headphones for their students. Blocking out background noise can enhance students' abilities to pay attention, participate in learning, and retain information. Teachers end up paying for headphones themselves. The YPS Library would like to purchase 12 headphones that we can check out to teachers and students as needed. The headphones will be returned at year-end, so this headphone resource should last indefinitely.

Having functional computers will enable students to use updated technology so they can write the code for their robots effectively and compete against other teams in the upcoming school year
The goal for Cricut Club is to have one computer for each of three Cricut cutting machines that will run Design Space software to operate them. The software will not run on chrome books. The end goal is make the Cricut Club a self-sustaining fundraising club to to give back to the school and the community.

Our students during small group get to spend a part of their block on technology. It would be such a benefit for the students to have a program they could explore and learn Science content, while also having fun and engaged. This is also a program we would use to make certain concepts hands on that are not possible in a real situations. For example state standards require 5th grade science students to know the parts of the digestive system. Gizmos has its own simulation where students build and create their own digestive systems.

Every year as a reading teacher, our number one goal is to foster a love for reading. As we continue to navigate through new state standards and using our recently adopted reading Benchmark curriculum, we continue to think outside of the box about ways we can do just that.
We like to encourage a mixture of some hands-on activities that can be completed by the students and used to help engage them in the text not only from our new curriculum but also from the suggested grade level reading list given to us by the state. The priority for any reading teacher is to think creatively so that we can spark a love for reading in all of our students. In order to do this, at times, we have to create exposure to text that the students can hold and take it a step further using a variety of manipulatives to give our students.

Readers of the Pack: Pairing Intensive Reading Students with Deltona High School’s PreK Wolf Pups to Foster Fluency (and Raise Ravenous Readers!)
Deltona High School
In the wild, all members of a wolfpack are responsible for the care and upbringing of each and every member. Contrary to the villainous versions in myths and fairytales, wolves are known for their tight-knit family groups and their nurturing instincts. From hunting for food to teaching essential life skills, wolves go above and beyond to ensure that the entire pack thrives. The same is true at Deltona High School, home of the Wolves. The entire campus works together to support the academic growth of all of our students, from our 9th graders in Intensive Reading all the way down to our Early Childhood PreK Wolf Pups. Our “Readers of the Pack” guest reader program is designed to support the literacy growth of both of these high-needs groups on our campus.
Deltona High School is one of only a handful of Volusia County high schools with an Early Childhood Education Course and a fully functioning PreK classroom. As a result, we have a unique opportunity to support literacy development and spark a life-long love of reading in our youngest pack members by pairing them with high school students for read-aloud opportunities.
Additionally, we have a chance to provide extra literacy support to our students in 9th grade Intensive Reading in an authentic and engaging way as “Guest Readers.” Our new 9th grade students’ reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension still lags behind after years of post-COVID schooling, exacerbated by numerous teacher vacancies. The “Readers of the Pack” program will strengthen their foundational reading skills and provide consistent fluency practice opportunities while also modeling good literacy habits to our youngest wolves. At Deltona High School, the pack takes care of its own.

Kindness Begins With Me

Because we believe that 'Kindness begins with me,' we feel very strongly about empowering our Kindness Squad with tools that allow them to promote the Spirit of Kindness with other Timbercrest Tigers. This grant is all about empowering our “Kindness Squad” students to prove that Kindness starts with them!
Timbercrest Elementary Kindness Squad consists of 4th and 5th grade student leaders that demonstrate positive attitudes and choices around the school. These students have been selected by previous teachers that felt that they represented kindness, friendship, encouraging, and helpful qualities that promoted positivity at Timbercrest.
Each Friday morning, they greet our Timbercrest Tigers at Parent Pick-Up dancing and waving Spirit Sticks. They also look for ways to encourage other Timbercrest Tigers in their classes as well as on our school campus. Videos of our Kindness Squad doing “their thing” are shared on social media to share the experience with parents, families, and the community.
For our fourth year, we are looking for additional resources to help promote this program throughout the school and bring more Acts of Kindness to Timbercrest. We hope to not only encourage student leadership in our Kindness Squad, but to inspire others to be kind. Our Kindness Squad representatives have brainstormed these ideas to continue improving our Kindness Movement across the school and community. his project will reinforce all the SEL standards from the ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors for Students Success, on which the VCS SEL program is based.

For the past two years, Futures has funded a garden at Spruce Creek Elementary. This garden has been used in both second and fourth grades to support science standards. When gardening, my students and I have noticed how many other students in other grades are fascinated by the garden and want to help. I would like to expand the garden, adding a sitting area where students who are dysregulated or upset can come to cool down, relax, and then help tend the garden. Our school is a PBIS school, so teachers can also use the garden area as a PBIS reward. This will support both our School Improvement Plan as well as K-5 science standards. According to Voight & Nation (2016), peer support programs are beneficial to both the peer helpers and the students they support, creating a positive school culture by enhancing connectedness. The proposed peer helper program is designed promote a supportive school environment at Hinson Middle School, as part of our school’s Supportive School Climate plan (ref: VCS 502.14).
Selected 8th grade students will be trained as peer helpers to provide positive role modeling and assist 6th grade students. A new 6th grade Kindness Club will be launched for 6th grade students to participate in activities that promote a supportive school environment in which all students feel accepted and included. The materials listed in this proposal are needed to train the peer helpers, to facilitate team building activities between 6th graders and the 8th grade peer helpers, and for the participants to create positive messaging in the 6th grade building through hall decorations, posters, cards, etc.

My goal is for us teachers to have the option to print color copies when necessary so students can decipher things by color; not just shape or size. We do not have the option to print in color from copy center unless approved well ahead of time and have a specific code. This printer will stay in the Kindergarten pod and allow us to choose certain activities for ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies and Writing to print in color.
Over summer I print an excess amount of colored documents for my classroom: letters for a word wall, the alphabet, numbers and ten frames, number line, I can statements, the daily schedule, calendar, classroom rules and so much more. All these must be different colors so the students can easily differentiate between each concept. If everything was black and white in my room, students wouldn’t have a way to make connections with the learning tools, such as my alphabet, number line, etc.

My goal with the Sphero Bolt coding robots is to inspire gifted and talented students' curiosity, enabling them to explore their creativity and inventiveness. The goal is also to help improve the motivation of these students, who statistically speaking, can often struggle with work ethic or perseverance due to a lack of exposure to difficult concepts at early ages. In reference to Bloom’s Taxonomy, offering students the opportunity to utilize higher level thinking skills, including analysis, synthesis and evaluation will improve their ability to reason and think abstractly in real world situations. The Sphero Bolt robots enable students to tap into these higher level skills, offering opportunities for a growing impact on society while developing a love for the learning process. As both a gifted resource teacher and a science intervention teacher, these bots will also be used with Grades 3-5 Science Intervention to develop mastery of science standards including force and motion, electricity, circuits, and energy. George Marks Elementary School
Our Grandparent Connection Zone program connects role models with young people with exceptional needs. Our school improvement goals is to move our Reading levels in ELA Reading from 58% to 62% as a school. We are getting creative offering a grandparent support support group to read to young learners from a state approved book list and assist them with additional reading. Based on our data from our EWS Early Warning System, we gathered our baseline scores the lowest 30% involved at-risk readers, 25 from 2nd grade, 23 from 1st grade. Our goal is to bring up Reading levels in grades 1 and 2 as well with identified students participating in the program. We have our established baseline data, with a goal of improving scores/grades by .25%.

Show them the Monet!!!!
The goal of this project is to introduce my students to Claude Monet and “Plein Air” painting, this French expression means “in the open air”. The artists of Taylor High will leave the four walls of their normal studio space behind and head outdoors to paint and draw the landscapes that our campus has to offer. Students will learn how this practice dates back for centuries but was made into an art form by the French Impressionists, like Monet, the founder of the movement and their desire to capture the ever-changing light. With the recent discovery of transportable paint tubes and the box easel, this allowed the artists the freedom to paint “en plein air” or open air! Students will be provided with portable easels and drawing boards that will allow them the freedom to draw and paint with ease while in the field, they will experience what the Impressionists utilized to capture the images they study today.

I have two goals for this project. My ultimate goal for this project is to teach 4th and 5th grade students the life skill that is sewing.
My second goal (also very important), is to receive the funding to provide the school with two sewing machines, for learning purposes.
Sewing and tailoring is unfortunately an art form and career that is not as popular as it was years ago. With this, the skill has been less and less used- and many people have lost the knowledge of how useful basic sewing knowledge can be. With working at a Title 1 school, I noticed a lot of students had broken things- torn clothing, bags, and more. I have had students come to me for help in repairing their bookbags, a dress, and more. It has been my hope that I can at least teach them how they can make the repairs on their own, if needed for their futures. It is also a skill that I want to provide-in case this sparks an interest in a future career path for some students.

ROBOGATORS is a LEGO Robotics Junior team from Elbridge Gale Elementary School in Wellington, FL. ROBOGATORS, a team made up of four second graders and two third graders, worked tirelessly to build a LEGO city with coded robotic components highlighting teamwork, innovation, and inspired leadership. Their city proudly boasts eco-friendly power solutions, such as hydroelectricity and bio-fuel, and is enjoyable for all persons with buildings specifically designed for those needing Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations. All of this hard work paid off on January 16, 2020 when their team received an invitation to attend the FIRST LEGO League World Festival in Houston, TX, April 15-18, 2020!
The ROBOGATORS are excited to be Wellington’s FIRST Robotics Junior team to be invited to the FIRST® Lego League World Festival and is the only Junior team in Palm Beach County to receive such an honor for this year! But we need your help. We have less than two months to fund the entire trip to Houston, TX. Our estimates put the need at more than $10,000 for the week long trip. This amount covers airfare, hotel, food, shipping their project to Houston, and any other unforeseen incidentals. All of the proceeds collected will go towards funding the six kiddos and their two coaches.

In order to accomplish our goals, we blend classroom instruction with off-campus and after-school activities that include field trips, community service programs, Awards Night, Military Ball, Summer Camp, and Drill, Air Rifle, Raider, and Academic team competitions. Financing these efforts is challenging. The JROTC program needs approximately $25,000 a year to run the wide variety of events that support our mission.

The goal of this project is to introduce three Bottle Filling Stations, while also supplying each student and staff member with a stainless steel reusable water bottle to keep. Because kids in elementary school are at an impressionable age, they are more likely to adopt lifelong habits if influenced early. That’s why it’s essential to teach these students now about the misuse and overuse of plastic, to change their habits, help them influence their parents, peers and other friends, and positively affect the environment for years to come. The first step to lowering plastic consumption is to get people to refuse to use it altogether and to give them an equally or more convenient, healthy alternative. Giving these students at Highland Elementary replacements of those SUPs and helping them adopt the habit of refilling them at easily accessible filling stations is an important step in making that positive impact on the environment from a plastic and waste perspective.

Please help us grow our garden! Poinciana STEM is a Title 1 Elementary School in East Boynton Beach. Many of the children have little connection to how food is grown or to the benefits of eating a diet rich in vegetables and fruits. Growing up in an urban environment many of them also have little connection to nature in general. We’d like to help enrich their lives in these ways through the creation and maintenance of an organic food producing garden. The students will also help create other wonderful elements for the garden including music and art elements. They will be planting beautiful flowers and creating a butterfly garden to enhance the experience of being outside amongst nature. We also intend to incorporate all the concepts in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to everything in the garden as they are the center of all learning at Poinciana!

Bringing Reading To Life Through Listening and Learning

Educators have recognized the value of recorded texts and have been infusing them within the everyday curriculum. One Goal of using Audio books is to bring the written text to life, allowing all readers (especially struggling ones) to connect to literature and expand their worldview.
Academics have researched the educational effects of audio books and books with CD’s and the results have been astounding. For one, listening to readings is a proven way to learn new vocabulary. A study conducted by Stahl, Richek, and Vandevier (1991) found that students who read along with audio books tremendously increased their word knowledge. That is another goal of this project to increase acquisition of new vocabulary. Recorded texts also bridge the gap for students attempting to read above their independent reading level and scaffold the developing skills of struggling readers. One of the biggest goals of this project is to help struggling readers. Since struggling readers do not have to decode the text when listening to an audio book, their cognitive load gets lighter, allowing students to deeply focus on what the text is about. In essence, comprehension is increased and reading time is maximized, translating into a greater engagement with literature.

I would like to create a digital classroom in my 7th & 8th grade Language Arts classes at Christa McAuliffe Middle School. I am hoping to reduce paper use, increase technical literacy of my students, develop student independence, increase group work skills, and spread learning beyond the classroom. In order for this to be successful, I would like to purchase a classroom set of iPads and the supporting apps. Due to their ease of use, their adaptability, their ability to connect to the Internet, the many apps that are used to enhance learning, iPads are the way to go. My goal is to experiment with my students doing more of their work digitally. This allows their work to be more freely available to other students and teachers. This allows for more independence in student learning and motivates them to do more work outside the classroom.

The goal of this grant is to refurbish our classroom garden that was created last year. The garden consists of three raised, wheelchair-accessible garden beds, a composting station, and pallets holding flower baskets. Students participate to the best of their ability in the gardening process from start to finish- from composting, to maintaining flowers and herbs, and propagation.
Since establishing the garden, some plants and herbs have died and must be replanted. Through trial and error, and student-teacher research, we have learned what plants and herbs thrive the most in our environment, as well as how to best maintain the garden.

My goal is to increase my students� literacy skills, improve parent participation in my classroom, and promote student centered learning so the students can take leadership roles in their educational journey through poetry. A young learner�s passion for reading develops through constant exposure and opportunities to read and experience a world of words and illustrations that fosters imagination, creativity, and drama, and music while reinforcing my first grade objectives. Through poetry, young readers are given the opportunity to develop a love for literacy, become fluent readers by enhancing their decoding skills and using visual cues to gain a better understanding and comprehension of literacy. As students read and reread poems several times during the week they are able to strengthen vocabulary, oral language, decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills. It is important to expose young readers to a variety of genres that can foster a love of reading and in return help to support young writers. Students at this young stage of development benefit greatly from reading poems daily and as a result they can be given the opportunity to enhance their over all level of literacy development.

Cypress Elementary is a Title 1 school. The students in my class come from a low socioeconomic background and often do not have the same opportunities that many other first graders in our district would have. Our current Benchmark Achievement Test 2 scores (indicator of how theyll do on FCAT) shows that less than 50% of our students are proficient in reading. The data for the students in my class show that more than 50% (out of 18 students) score below 70% on their weekly unit tests (Journeys Reading Series) in comprehension and vocabulary. Many score a low probably rate of reading success on the FAIR test. With the implementation of Common Core Standards, my students need to be proficient in reading and comprehending rigorous text, and to be able to perform complex tasks. Using the Kindle E-Reader will give the students access to rigorous texts, periodicals, multimedia, and other types of informational texts all on one device. Obtaining the literature required to meet all my students interests and needs is challenging. The Kindle E Reader, will give me developmentally to pair appropriate text with highly effective instruction, thus increasing students reading fluency, comprehension, and improve their learning and increase their test scores.

They create strong and enduring mental representations of what they have experienced in investigating the everyday world. They readily acquire vocabulary to describe and share these mental representations and the concepts that evolve from them. Science gives the students a hands-on learning approach with literacy components. This also incorporates parental involvement and support. When parents get involved in a preschoolers education, they get a better sense of what goes on in the program. The science experiments will be done at school and then recreated at home. The students will be given a packet to take home with the instructions for the parents to duplicate the science experiment.

This project is all about reusing, repurposing and beautifying our school and community. As a winner of the P3 Challenge last May the environment is very important to me. I am a true steward of my environment and so are my students. I focus my classroom activities on reducing our carbon footprint and repurposing what we already have. At the same time I am teaching my students about their community and giving back. My students and I will reuse and repurpose old tires, stepping stones, bottles, fabric and food grade drums to make a positive impact on our community. Beautiful planters, mosaic stepping stones, floral arrangements, animal bandanas, and unbelievable rain barrels are products that will result from this recycling initiative.

My objective is to help students develop a natural curiosity and provide real life experiences and involvement with real people with real jobs/careers. Students will use an iPad, online websites, and the Internet to connect to the real world. By using technology, I can deliver a stronger instructional foundation that captures students interest. As a result, my students will interact and explore common core curriculum topics involving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics activities. This approach will lead to deeper knowledge, better connected learning, and more applicable to subsequent learning, and further students life careers. Students will be exposed to numerous careers choices, in hope that they can develop interests and in their future, pursue professions that involve science, technology, engineering, or math careers. This innovative approach will aid and assist students as they research non-fictional topics, be exposed to guest speakers, and role-play different career paths in which they are interested in. Living Character Traits of Famous Americans Today by Published Books

First graders will read and research biographies about Famous Americans, compare and contrast their lives, discuss a character trait, make a Bottle Person American, and publish their book with Student Treasure Publishing. As a Culminating Activity, the Principal, Assistant Principal, and their Parents will be invited to a Biography Authors Tea where students will be dressed as Famous Americans costumes and read their published books to a live audience during school hours.
