Goal
Our goal is to create a fun and innovating nature of science experiment while getting students familiar with sustainable farming and how beneficial it is. Through this lesson our students will understand different techniques used to grow food and how it is beneficial to our environment.
What will be done with my students
We will introduce them to sustainable farming and have them research this technique of aquaponics. Each group will be given the supplies to create a mini aquaponics. Each group will use a different variable and will collect the data over several weeks. Once the seeds germinate we will add shrimp to the jar so each group will have a mini aquaponics. It is our goal to continue the study and possibly design a larger scale aquaponics for them to build.
Benefits to my students
It will introduce them to new and innovative way to farm. Not only will they learn about sustainable farming but will be involved in data collection, research and reporting the information for their mini garden. They will gain skills in research, collaboration.
Budget Narrative
Each group will receive the mini aquaponics with two live shrimp in the jar. We will track the growth and amount of water saved throughout the process.
