Investors
Thank you to the following investors for funding this grant.
Lena Chinners - $25.00
The Ganeles Children - $268.29
Goal
Purchase items for outdoor vegetable and butterfly gardens, so students can have hands-on and real-life experience with plants, and vegetables.
What will be done with my students
So much learning. So much communicating. So much fun!!! Students will plant three gardens: two on the ground and one elevated for wheelchair students. We will plant tomatoes, string beans, carrots, oregano, basil, and mint.
Benefits to my students
There are so many benefits for a garden for special needs students. Math connections include measurements, graphing plant growth, use of calendar to predict when a plant will grow, comparing sizes of seeds and plants. Science connections include where food comes from, which insects help or hurt a garden, how to help care for the environment, and use our five senses. Most importantly gardening and observing nature and plants will benefit the students' communication skills.
Budget Narrative
Items will be purchased at Home Depot, Lowe's, and Dollar Store.
