What will be done with my students
While all standards can be used with this, my focus will be on Topics 3 and 4 in the curriculum. Standards MA.8.AR.2.1 , 2.2, 3.1, 3.2, & 4.1. These standards focus on linear functions combined with graphing, solving, evaluating, and interpreting. Students will use special blacklight pens to answer linear function questions. By keeping answers secret, students will be encouraged to make a decision. The flashlight will reveal answers for a limited time. Incorrect answers can be held secret and suggestions made for the student or group to have another chance to fix a misconception. Competition can be built.
Benefits to my students
Today's students are easily 'bored'. Finding news ways to engage them is key #1. Today's students also dislike being wrong, but enjoy competition. My hope is that students with misconceptions will not have their errors on display and those that are correct, can get the positive consequence they deserve.
