What will be done with my students

Students will be introduced to a variety of genres, or styles of music through listening (MU.912.C.1.1) and taught what to listen for and how to compare different performances (MU.912.C.1.2) Students will be given the opportunity to examine and play instruments from around the world and classify them into various instrument families (MU.912.C.1.3) Students will learn the history behind the instruments and those who performed and composed the music (MU.912.H.1.1) (MU.912.H.1.2) Students will also be given the opportunity to compose their own songs or improvise a familiar tune, using the various instruments and evaluate each other’s performances (MU.912.C.2.3) (MU.912.S.1.1) Because students will be performing, they will also be learning appropriate audience etiquette (focused attention, respect, and discipline during class, rehearsal and performances) (DA.912.S.2.1)

Benefits to my students

The instruments will allow approximately 200 students to be exposed to not only a variety of unique instruments, but the cultures and traditions that those instruments originate from.
