There are several different types of learners in my classroom, but what I have discovered is that my students benefit best from small group activities that then translate into whole group activities. I want my students to be able to work together to review topics I have taught and create visual charts that will become a part of our classroom. I expect that these visual anchor charts will improve district assessment scores as students will have ownership in it.

Goal

There are several different types of learners in my classroom, but what I have discovered is that my students benefit best from small group activities that then translate into whole group activities. I want my students to be able to work together to review topics I have taught and create visual charts that will become a part of our classroom. I expect that these visual anchor charts will improve district assessment scores as students will have ownership in it.

Category

School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.

What will be done with my students

Students will work in small groups to discuss standards, vocabulary, and create ideas they expect to see on the anchor chart. The class will come together to create one complete anchor chart. I plan to use this activity to cover the following standards: SC.7.E.6.7: Recognize that heat flow and movement of material within Earth causes earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, and creates mountains and ocean basins; SC.7.E.6.2: Identify patterns within the rock cycle and relate them to surface events (weathering and erosion) and sub-surface events (plate tectonics and mountain building);SC.7.L.16.2: Determine the probabilities for genotype and phenotype combinations using Punnett squares and pedigrees; and SC.7.L.17.2: Compare and contrast the relationships among organisms such as mutualism, predation, parasitism, competition, and commensalism.

Benefits to my students

Students will have the opportunity to collaborate and take ownership of the material. There will be discussions to further understanding that lead to a visual representation of the benchmarks. These anchor charts will be displayed in the classroom throughout the duration of the unit to continue to review until the district assessment. Each class period will have their own anchor chart created, which may deepen an understanding by seeing it from a different point of view than their own class period.

Budget Narrative

I would be purchasing anchor chart paper and anchor chart markers. I would need enough anchor chart paper for each class period for each standard.
