Goal

The goal of my program is to make life-long artists of my students by giving them the materials to work on art at home.

Category

School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.

What will be done with my students

Florida Standards - VA.1.S.1.1:Experiment with art processes and media to express ideas and VA.2.O.3.1: Create personally meaningful works of art to document and explain ideas about local and global communities.
To encourage life-long artists, I will assemble backpacks with specific art project ideas for students to take home over the weekend. Many of our students only have access to art materials at school. They do not have a variety of mediums to explore at home and I want to allow them to work at their own pace in the comfort of their home on an art piece. There will be 24 backpacks and each week I will choose one student from each class to take home a backpack to complete a fun art project at home. The backpacks will be dayglo colors to be easily distinguishable. Parents will give permission and will help the student keep the materials together that were checked out through the ART-TO-GO program. The backpacks will each be a different project with all the materials that are needed to have a finished piece. Examples are watercolor painting, weaving, air-dry clay figures, acrylic paintings, and sketch drawings. Students are encouraged to send a photo of their piece or can bring in their finished project to show their peers. Each week the backpacks will be restocked and organized to be ready for the next student.

Benefits to my students

The benefits to my students are that they will gain a love of art beyond the classroom. They will be in their community where they can get inspiration and share their pieces. This will help all achievers and will give students the confidence to explore different mediums and techniques they may not have had the courage to try in front of their peers.
