The Deltona Middle School Orchestra Program has grown since I started as the director in 2021 and there are now 155 students enrolled playing violin, viola, cello, or double bass. I am so lucky to have this growth in my program, however higher enrollment in the orchestra program causes extra costs associated with maintaining the orchestra instruments and accessories. One of the most essential accessories is the corresponding bow for each instrument. A quality bow significantly enhances a student's technique, promotes greater comfort during play, and enriches the tonal diversity and depth of the sound produced. It is my goal to provide my students with a quality bow for their instruments that provides comfort for technical skills and that will invest in their musical future.

What will be done with my students

The outcome of this grant would impact the orchestra program immediately by replacing bows that are currently in disrepair. Currently, I have several bows that are worn, warped, and missing bow-hair. This affects a student's success in orchestra because they are having to fight variables out of their control. Thus, providing students with a proper working bow is essential to improve a student's musicality, techniques, skills, and confidence.

Benefits to my students

Replacing instrument bows will help students take pride in playing their instrument and build confidence through performance. The necessity of a high-quality instrument bow also directly correlates to improving a student's technique, sound production, and musicality.
This directly correlates to two Florida Standard/Benchmarks.
MU.68.S.3.2
Demonstrate proper vocal or instrumental technique.

MU.68.S.3.6
Develop and demonstrate efficient rehearsal strategies to apply skills and techniques.

Budget Narrative

I have prioritized the number of bows needed based on the proportion of instrument that need bows replaced.
All bows will be purchased from approved VCS vendor, Music & Arts.
All prices have been verified through an official quote.
