Goal

To provide multiple opportunities for students to be physically active and put them on a path to better physical, heart and mental health.

Category

Physical Education Equipment - Rackets, bats, balls, nets, jump ropes, etc.

What will be done with my students

There will be lessons taught in the various Science classes at Riverview Elementary/Secondary on cardiovascular health (SC.912.L.14.36), heart health (HE.912.C.1.3)and the respiratory system (SC.912.L.14.39).
Students will have the opportunity to utilize our tennis, pickleball, basketball and racquetball courts. They will also have several fields to participate in soccer, football, baseball and softball exercises. Students will also have access to our fitness room for weightlifting, boxing instruction, and cardiovascular machines. These activities will be an extension of the lessons taught in science classes.

Benefits to my students

By incorporating physical activity into a daily routine students will experience positive heart health benefits and be on the path for a better future. Regular physical activity can produce long-term heart and health benefits. It can help reduce stress and depression, reduce disease, control weight, improve heart and lung function, provide for better sleep and give more energy.
Studies show that physically active students score higher on standardized tests and have better grades, particularly in math, english and reading. Recess and classroom activity breaks show positive association with indicators of cognitive skills, attitudes, and academic behavior and achievement.

Budget Narrative

I will purchase the above equipment to add additional exercise activities for our students. This will work on the cardiovascular and strength training opportunities to our fitness program in correlation with the activities and lessons taught through the science classes.
