What will be done with my students

In this project, students will apply creativity, initiative, artistic preferences and the engineering design process to design, build a prototype, and wire a 3 bedroom, 3 bath "dream home".
This project will integrate technology, manufacturing, construction, science and math into lessons.
The process of completing this project requires students to draw a scale floor plan that includes appliances, wiring, and electrical loads. Then students will construct a prototype using cardboard, balsa wood, and colored string (for wire).
The entire project is expected to take 4-6 weeks and includes lessons that instruct students in the use of a multimeter to measure voltage and amperage.

FLORIDA STANDARDS ADDRESSED IN THIS PROJECT.

Benefits to my students

-Students will be reinforced in math skills, science standards regarding electricity, have researched and explored careers in electrical industry.
- In Florida and specifically in Volusia County, there is a shortage of workers in the electrical career field. Students with electrical skills can find employment in a wide variety of industries including the aerospace and robotics industries. The lessons in this module/unit will provide students with skills and knowledge that will be advantagious for
-At least one guest speaker from either Duke or FPL will speak to the class.

Budget Narrative

Students will use balsa wood pieces to frame to scale the house that they have designed. This will be done on top of the cardboard sheets. They will then use the wire, batteries, and LEDs to electrify the completed framed in house. Needle nose plyers are needed to manipulate and cut the wire.
