Thank you to the following investors for funding this grant.
Anonymous Family Foundation - $291.00
Heart of Volusia - $482.00
Goal
My goal is to be able to have more students engaged in a hands-on activity with learning how to take important vital signs. More stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and a blood pressure simulator means more students have that opportunity.
Category
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
What will be done with my students
My students in the Medical Academy will learn and deepen their understanding of vital sign limits. They will practice how to accurately obtain and monitor respirations, pulse rate, and blood pressure. As they become more comfortable and show proficiency, students have the ability to take vital signs on their peers, teachers, and others at the school Health Fair and community events.
The standard aligned to this is:
04.08 Demonstrate and record vital signs to include temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respirations while recognizing the normal range for each.
Benefits to my students
Taking vital signs is hands-on and will aim to keep kids interested. While we do currently have some cuffs and stethoscopes, we do not have enough working ones so that all students can be engaged at the same time. If we can have enough so that students in the class can work together, we will keep them from getting disengaged and off task. My goal is that each student can benefit from the items and not have to wait to use a stethoscope or cuff. A blood pressure simulator will aid in instruction to teach students on exactly what they should be listening for in obtaining a blood pressure.
Budget Narrative
For this request, I will be looking to purchase two electronic blood pressure cuffs, twelve new stethoscopes, a blood pressure simulating arm for instruction, three pulse oximeter readers, and one blood pressure monitor rolling stand. This will ensure that I can adequately teach how to take a proper blood pressure and allows students to have all tools needed to practice in a clinical setting.
