What will be done with my students

We will start with a multimedia lesson that will incorporate audio-visual instructions as well as direct instructions about Florida’s native bird species. Students will be able to discover what types of birds are living behind our school by watching a bird feeder camera. Students will get to experience a live bird demonstration from the Wild About Birds non-profit organization.

Benefits to my students

The lesson will progress over a length of 1 grading period and will be scaffolded to the abilities of all grade levels K-5th. The camera will be able to be utilized year after year to continue learning about new bird species that live around our school. Students will learn about the different characteristics of bird species and how their characteristics help them survive. They will learn how Art can increase awareness to environmental issues and contribute to wildlife conservation. Finally, students will create a unique multi-layer collagraph print of their favorite bird in its natural environment. All Student artwork will be displayed in our school gallery for families to view and to encourage future activism through their Artwork.
