The goal of this club is to support our students’ interests by building a positive culture, community and environment through high interest novels in book club. The club will provide an opportunity for students to develop conversational and critical thinking skills. Students will learn to appreciate different cultures, personal histories, values and traditions of others. They will be given the opportunities to seek to understand and evaluate different points of view. Students will discuss and analyze the texts in literature circles. Together, with teacher sponsors, teens will read texts from the Florida Teens Read (FTR) 2024-2025 Book List. Funding would support active reading resources for students so we can compete in the competition again this year. The Florida Teens Read 2024-2025 Book List has been approved by our principal and media specialist. Our students have won 1st place in the battle of the book's competition for the past two years. What will be done with my students

Students will select books from the 2024-2025 FAME Teen Reads list. This club is student led and guided by club sponsors. Students will read selected titles as a group. Through navigating our understandings of these texts, students will build community and foster an appreciation of different cultures. They will utilize reading journals and resources to support the development of critical thinking and conversational skills. Students will utilize their journals to prepare for the Battle of the Books competition at the end of the year.

Benefits to my students

his club will allow students to engage in texts with their peers. Students will engage in conversation as we navigate our understanding of texts. Students will take part in literature circles that develop critical thinking skills. By meeting regularly with peers for discussions students will connect by gathering around a similar topic and finding joy through shared reading. Literature is beautiful because it allows us to associate with things we are familiar with and learn from things that we are not familiar with. This will help students experience cultures beyond their own.
