What will be done with my students

The sketch books will provide an interactive way of learning visual note taking skills and utilizing notes from lessons. Sketch books also will be used to plan artwork and practice techniques. Students will have their art terms, art processes, art techniques, along with their planning for a point of reference. The sketch books will also provide the students a way to review learned information to aide in their art creating process. The sketch books will also be a place to write artist statements and reflections.

Benefits to my students

Receiving funding for sketchbooks would benefit and support my students in a very wide range for learning academic strategies along with learning beyond academics. The sketch books would implement time management skills and be a useful tool. Studies have shown that students who participate in the fine arts have an increase in self-confidence and self-expression.
Standards covered will be as follows but not limited to:
VA.912.S.3.10 Develop skill in sketching and mark-making to plan, execute, and construct two-dimensional images or three-dimensional models.
VA.912.S.2.5 Demonstrate use of perceptual, observational, and compositional skills to produce representational, figurative, or abstract imagery.
VA.912.F.1.1 Use divergent thinking, abstract reasoning, and various processes to demonstrate imaginative or innovative solutions for art problems.
VA.912.C.1.2 Use critical-thinking skills for various contexts to develop, refine, and reflect on an artistic theme.
VA.912.C.2.1 Examine and revise artwork throughout the art-making process to refine work and achieve artistic objective.
VA.912.F.3.2 Examine the rationale for using procedural, analytical, and divergent thinking to achieve visual literacy.

LAFS.910.RST.2.4: Determine the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific scientific or technical context relevant to grades 910 texts and topics.
WL.K12.NM.5.6: Pre-write by drawing pictures to support ideas related to a task. One benefit for the sketchbook project is that it will add greatly to reading and writing requirements for fine arts. Sketch books will promote time management skills and creative planning. The sketch book will add to students' vocabulary and speaking on topic skills. The teacher's sketch book will serve as a tool for when students are out so that the student may have a copy of notes, vocabulary and sketches.
