Goal

The goal of this project is to provide each of my students with a high-quality sketchbook, specifically the Pro Art 8x 5 1/2 sketchbooks from Blick Art Supply. These sketchbooks will serve as an essential tool for organizing art terms, assignment notes, planning, and reflections. They will support the creative process, helping students to develop their skills in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art forms, as well as aiding in the creation of artist statements and peer critiques. The sketchbooks will also promote time management and enhance students' ability to articulate their artistic intentions.

What will be done with my students

Students will use the sketchbooks for daily bellringer activities, note-taking on weekly topics, planning and experimenting with artwork, writing reflections on their projects, and preparing for critiques and artist statements. The sketchbooks will be integral to their learning, allowing them to record and refine their ideas throughout the art-making process.


The activities align with the following Florida educational standards:

- **VA.912.C.1.4**: Applying art knowledge and contextual information to analyze how content and ideas are used in works of art.
- **VA.912.C.2.1**: Revising artwork throughout the art-making process to refine work and achieve artistic objectives.
- **VA.912.S.2.5**: Demonstrating perceptual, observational, and compositional skills to produce representational, figurative, or abstract imagery.
- **VA.912.S.3.10**: Developing skills in sketching and mark-making to plan, execute, and construct two-dimensional images or three-dimensional models.
- **VA.912.C.3.1**: Using descriptive terms and varied approaches in art analysis to explain the meaning or purpose of an artwork.
- **VA.912.F.3.4**: Following directions and using effective time-management skills to complete the art-making process and demonstrate the development of 21st-century skills.
 

 

Benefits to my students

Funding this project will provide students with a consistent and reliable tool for their art education, enabling them to engage more deeply with the course material. The sketchbooks will enhance their organizational skills, support creative planning, and improve their ability to reflect on and critique their own work as well as the work of others. Additionally, the sketchbooks will contribute to literacy development by expanding students' art vocabulary and enhancing their ability to communicate their ideas effectively.

Incorporating writing and reading through the use of sketchbooks in art will not only enhance students' ability to articulate their artistic processes but will also strengthen skills that are transferable to other core subjects. By regularly reflecting on their work and engaging in critical thinking, students will develop stronger comprehension, analysis, and time management abilities, which are crucial for performing well in subjects like English and Social Studies. Additionally, the practice of organizing thoughts and expressing ideas clearly will improve their overall academic writing skills, helping them prepare for standardized testing. 

 

Budget Narrative

I am requesting funding to purchase Pro Art 8x 5 1/2 sketchbooks from Blick Art Supply. Each sketchbook costs $7.99. With 165 students currently enrolled (and the number expected to grow), these sketchbooks will be used throughout the school year for various art projects, planning, reflections, and critiques. They will benefit students by incorporating writing and reading into art which will not only enhance students' ability to articulate their artistic processes but will also strengthen skills that are transferable to other core subjects. These sketchbooks have been approved by the appropriate school personnel and will be distributed to each student in my Creating 2D, Creating 3D, and Ceramics/Pottery 1 and 2 classes.
