Goal

I would like to implement a new PE program for all grades called Scooter City. In order to create a scooter city for our P.O.E. students I will need the below mentioned materials. The city can begin small but grow as we would like it. We can incorporate new ideas each year to keep it fresh.

Category

Physical Education Equipment - Rackets, bats, balls, nets, jump ropes, etc.

What will be done with my students

Imagine a courtyard with roads, road signs, bowling alley, golf course, car wash, & a vegetable/fruit stand! The students will navigate their way through the roads on their scooters following the road signs. They will makes stops along the way, first at a bowling alley where they will use the jumbo inflatable bowling set. At this station the standard being used will be PE.K.M.1.8 Roll (1-5 to replace K for all grades standard) and throw a variety of objects using an underhand motion.
Next, they follow the roads to a car/scooter wash where they will have to travel between pool noodles and hula huts simulated as a car wash! Standard Used PE.K.M.1.1 (1-5 to replace K for all grades standard).
Finally they will end their trip in the city with a stop at a local vegetable and fruit stand. Here they will be able to purchase fruits and vegetables. Our older students will be given the opportunity to use fake money and work on math skills while simultaneously exploring healthy food options. Health standard used HE.K.PHC.1.1 (1-5 to replace K for all grades standard) Identify healthy behaviors that affect personal health.

Benefits to my students

While promoting health and fitness, the younger students will learn to use the scooter correctly and safely throughout the city. This benefits the students tremendously where I will be able to use this lesson each year and adapt yearly using different stations like a golf course etc. STEM is being incorporated more in this unit than any other unit throughout the year. The variety between having fun, learning healthy food choices, and using math skills sets up for a fun week of successful learning at Port Orange Elementary. Being a first year teacher of the year candidate with Futures Foundation I have come to be so thankful for you all. You made my first year all the the more special and I wish to continue successful years of learning at Port Orange Elementary. I know my students would be so grateful for this opportunity and we appreciate any funds the Futures Foundation is willing to provide!
