Goal

The purpose of the project is to inspire our students to do math in a fun way. A day activity where students practice mathematical problems, FL standards, real world problems, while the world glows around them.

What will be done with my students

Each grade level would have glow activity on the specific standards they have a harder time comprehending. Based on our VBA data, math teachers will be able to put together fun, glowing activities for each grade level on the lowest scored standards to achieve a higher level of comprehension. LED Black Light Bars will be placed around the room to show problems and questions that is on display with highlighters. Dark classroom/cafeteria/gym (depending on where we set it up) will be glowing with different stations, each displaying a specific math problem, a helpful hand (students teaching students), and solutions for the lowest standards. Teachers are ensuring the proper behavior and engagement level of the room, assisting with questions and problems, and supervising the flow of the room as students are transitioning between stations.

For 6th grade: MA.6.AR.2.3, MA.6.AR.1.3, MA.6.GR.1.1
For 6th Accelerated: MA.7.AR.3.1, MA.6.GR.2.4, MA.7.AR.1.2
For 6th Honors: MA.8.AR.1.3, MA.7.AR.3.1, MA.8.F.1.2
For 7th grade: MA.7.AR.3.1, MA.7.DP.1.4, MA.7.AR.4.5

Benefits to my students

This fun, glowing activity will ensure that students forget their dislike for math, learn the standards they have a hard time comprehending, so they can exceed expectations on their FAST PM 3 or EOC tests. They will not going to want to leave this environment. It's like a glow party, but learning math. Students helping other students is beneficial, as many times they can understand their peer's explanation better than the teacher's. With this glowing experience, understanding and solving the problem may help them remember better what they learned.

4 PCS 40 w LED black light bar (the largest package on Amazon. We would need 10 times this order to be able to have a large area lit up, where we are able set up stations and students are able to move around) $37.99/package. $37.99 x 10 = $379.90
