Currently, students who do not have access to mouthpieces will either try to not participate in the classroom or will be forced to play on "Community" mouthpieces that every class has access to. The objective is to have enough mouthpieces to have for students to participate and develop musical skills as an ensemble.

What will be done with my students

MU.68.C.1.1 Develop strategies for listening to unfamiliar musical works
MU.68.C.1.3 Identify, aurally, instrumental styles, and a variety of instrumental ensembles.
MU.68.H.1.1 Describe the functions of music from various cultures and time periods.
MU.68.O.1.1 Compare performances of a musical work to identify artistic choices made by performers.
MU.68.S.3.2: Demonstrate proper vocal or instrumental technique.

-Clarifications
"e.g., posture, breathing, fingering, embouchure, bow technique, tuning, strumming".

Enduring Understanding: Through purposeful practice, artists learn to manage, master, and refine simple, then complex, skills, and techniques.

Implementation: Once mouthpieces can be provided, students will participate in Embouchure exercises as a group. Each exercise will cater to each instrument's family and teach students proper warm-up techniques, listening to other areas of the ensemble, and a fundamental sound.

Benefits to my students

For students who need to use the school's instruments, they will have the tools necessary to train, at home, fundamentals without the need for a full instrument. This will allow students to participate in crucial school activities, during and after school, in a safer manner to help follow the Volusia County School Board's vision on tackling the Corona Virus pandemic within the schools.

Budget Narrative

Music Shack company is where we will be purchasing all of our equipment for the band (unless a better price is found). This will cover the gap we need to fill every student in the music program here at Campbell Middle School.
