Goal
By implementing flexible seating in my classroom, I will be able to meet the needs of all different types of learners. Being a teacher for over 15 years has proven to me that every single student learns differently and there is no one student alike. Students require different options for seating in order to be able to focus and maximize their learning potential! Currently all that is provided to me is 25 hard traditional style metal chairs with zero other options.
Category
Class Furniture - Carpets, choral risers, transitional seating/desks, etc.
What will be done with my students
Imagine as an adult having to sit on a hard metal chair for hours at a time and listening to someone teach. That is hard enough to think about as an adult, now imagine how hard that would be for an 8 year old. Currently my students have a choice of sitting on a hard floor or a hard metal chair all throughout their day to learn. But kids need to move, especially students with special needs such as ADHD and attention disorders. I am a firm believer that every child can be successful and every child can learn, however it is up to the teacher to provide the best environment in which for them to do so. My classroom is very small so options are limited for them in the way of movement. We do not have space for them to spread out or get their energy out in the small classroom. By providing flexible seating arrangements to them in the space that we do have, I know my students will be much better equipped to maximize their full potential.
Benefits to my students
I wish to provide for my students wiggle seats and cushions that they can use at the the desks that are currently provided to them rather than having to sit all day on the hard metal chairs. Floor cushions will be used on the hard floor that they sit on in front of the board when they come to the "carpet" that is over 20 years old that is currently in my classroom! For small group time, I want me students to be able to sit on bean bags or plastic stools with cushions to allow them to be be more comfortable! My students deserve the very best and I want to be able to provide that to them.
Budget Narrative
I am requesting some or all of the items listed above to create a full flexible seating arrangement classroom to my class of 21 2nd Grade Students.
