What will be done with my students

Students will be responsible for the care of our chickens and will learn the compassion and respect for other living creatures. We will not only raise chickens and gather eggs, but we will sell the eggs to the public.

Benefits to my students

BENEFITS TO MY STUDENTS
This project will teach our students the business side of agriculture using systematize bookkeeping and other accounting functions; including assets, liabilities, revenue and expenses for a small business enterprise and will learn how to advertise and sell their product.
Students will follow the farming industry standards to ensure agriculture operations are well managed and environmentally safe to produce quality products.
Our poultry project will be an organic farming project where students will follow the standards for products bearing the USDA organic label that are to be grown and processed without the use of toxic and synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, genetic engineering, antibiotics and synthetic growth hormones. This means our students will have to learn how to meet these organic standards, as well as learning how different farming methods can affect our environment.
This agricultural education program will be made up of two integrated parts: Classroom Instruction and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). Students with an SAE learn by doing with the help from their agricultural teachers and staff.

Budget Narrative

We currently have a chicken house with a feeding run that will house 12-15 chickens. We wish to construct a 16’x16’ external chicken run to allow for “safe free ranging” of the chickens as the Ag Farm has many predators. We presently have three (3) grown hens and wish to increase the flock to fifteen (15). (See attached picture of current chicken house).
All poultry project profits will go right back into the business.
We pride ourselves on raising future leaders in the fields of agriculture, science and business. This will be a collaborative effort between myself as Farm Manager, Ms. Deborah Marsicano, CTE Teacher and the Ag Course students. With this mission in mind, we’re sure you will agree that funding our school project will meet those goals!
We wish to invite all of you to visit the Land Lab (Ag Farm) anytime!
