Last year students in our FFEA (Future Florida Educators of America) CTSO attended the state conference where I was introduced to a 3-D printer. I was immediately intrigued and amazed at how engaging it can be for students. One of the Florida FFEA chapters had the printer and was sharing some of the ways they use it in their TEAL Academy. From that moment, I've wanted to get one for my TEAL teaching Academy students and FFEA chapter members.

Each FFEA chapter is encouraged to bring over 200 novelty items to share with other high school clubs at state conference. My goal is to have our FFEA chapter create small apples or something similar to bring and share with the other conference attendees. We plan and work on our submissions for over two months during lunch. It would be an engaging effort to make the items to pass out at our booth.
Also, in the TEAL Academy framework we have several technology standards/benchmarks that we explore and meet. Another goal of mine is to explore some creative STEM options in our classroom that complements the curriculum, fosters creativity and opens new possibilities for learning.

What will be done with my students

As mentioned above, the first thing I'd like to do is come up with an item to share with the hundreds of high school and college FFEA students attending the state convention.
Also, AHS is hosting the district FFEA conference in the Spring for Volusia County local elementary and middle school FFEA chapters. I plan to have a workshop with the 3D printer to allow those students to engage in a STEM activity as well.

These are just a few of the standards I feel would align with the introduction of the 3D printer in our classroom.
23.0 Demonstrate basic technology competencies through effective use of multiple software applications.
24.0 Use existing and emerging technology to accomplish educational goals
Align curricular goals and instructional objectives with the capabilities of the electronic media.
26.01 Identify electronic resources suitable for specific content learning and teaching.
26.02 Plan learning environments and experiences that are supported by technology.

Benefits to my students

Using 3D printing technology allows learners to be exposed to different learning experiences and strengthens analytical thinking. Every week my high schoolers work in our lab with the VPK students and also visit and help out in our ESE classrooms. For example, if we want to help students with math problems, we could use our 3D printer to create some scaled models to enhance the learning and lesson. The 3D printer promotes active learning, encourages problem-solving, and lets children think creatively and come up with solutions to real-world problems. These are incredible benefits for not only my high school students but our ESE and VPK students on campus. I love the idea of how engaging the 3D printing technology is for all learners.

Budget Narrative

When I attended FACTE conference over the summer I met a vendor who was selling 3D printers. I'm actually open to any brand. The Bambu 3D Printer was the one I seen in person.
