Goal

The goal of this request is to get the materials needed to continue rug tufting with the students STEM

Category

School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.

What will be done with my students

Rug Tufting materials (tufting fabric, backing fabric, adhesives, skeins of yarn, yarn winders, yarn scissors, yarn shears, 2X4 planks, screws, tufting frames, and mini projectors) will be purchased. This is intended to continue a textile manufacturing project where students use these materials to create their own tufted rug.

Last year, I was awarded a grant from Volusia Manufacturing Association (VMA). The grant was used to purchase 5 rug tufting machine starter kits. The company that I purchased the kits through included a donation of 5 additional machines and extra rug tufting fabric.

Students successfully used the materials and tools purchased with the VMA grant to design and create a tufted rug in their STEM class elective last year.

With a grant from Futures I would like to purchase the materials necessary to continue this amazing project.

Students will use the materials to explore, design, and create a tufted rug from start to finished product. They will learn about the rug tufting process including manufacturing and marketing.
