Goal
The purpose of this project is to have students continue to develop their understanding of nature through the study of insects. This lesson will introduce 800+ elementary students to the work of Raku Inoue who is a multidisciplinary sculpture artist. I am planning to use a variety of media to make different types of insect art projects.
Category
School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.
What will be done with my students
I will introduce Florida native insects to students through multimedia lessons and incorporate audio-visual instructions. Students will collect their own decaying material around campus to make their Art projects. Students will also learn how to create insect shapes by using samples from nature.

SC.5.L.17.1
Compare and contrast adaptations displayed by animals and plants that enable them to survive in different environments such as life cycles variations, animal behaviors and physical characteristics.
MAFS.2.MD.1.1 Measure the length of an object to the nearest inch, foot, centimeter, or meter by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
MAFS.3.G.1.2 Partition shapes into parts with equal areas. Express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the whole. For example, partition a shape into 4 parts with equal area, and describe the area of each part as 1/4 of the area of the shape
Benefits to my students
The lesson will take place over one grading period and will be scaffolded to the abilities of all grade levels K-5th. Students will learn about the different characteristics of insects and how they interact in the natural world. They will also learn how Art can increase awareness to endangered insects contribute to wildlife conservation. For grades 2nd-5th, students will learn to paint on canvas by using branches instead of brushes. All student artwork will be displayed in our school gallery for families to view.
