Goal
I am teaching Physical Science at Taylor and my students would like to try some real world Science Experiences. We would like to design and put together an educational booth for the County fair concerning what we are able to learn and discover about Bees and Honey. We would like to continue this venture with entering the Science Fair. This would be the first time ever entering a science fair for these ambitious 11th graders!
Category
Class Furniture - Carpets, choral risers, transitional seating/desks, etc.
What will be done with my students
I will supervise my students as they design a booth for public display in the Educational building on the topic of "Bees and Honey". We will do research, compile a pamphlet of interesting, un"bee"lievable facts and have kids activities and a photo booth for the community. Simultaneously the students will be researching topics of their own interest and designing experiments to answer their thought provoking questions each Wednesday during class time. They will use the scientific method to test and capture data on their topics and we will display their efforts and findings at a schoolwide Fair on 12-6-24 with several projects potentially going on to compete in the Tomoka Regional Fair. This will be the first time any of these 11th graders will be entering a science fair, ever.
Benefits to my students
My plan is to improve my students ability to use deductive reasoning through graphing, reporting findings, designing coherent procedures and analyzing data (SC.912.N.1.4) They will learn to apply the scientific method to daily tasks and challenges and identify answers to questions through scientific investigation (SC.912.N.2.1, SC.912.N.2.2). I also hope to instill in my students the ability to be confident public speakers, relying on their knowledge of scientific facts and findings (SC.912.N.1.6, SC.912.N.3.10).
Budget Narrative
The students I am working with tell me they have never done a science fair before because they are so expensive and there wasn't extra money to allow for it. The students are so excited about this. I have searched Amazon, the bee costume comes from TEMU, Walmart and Office Max to find the best prices available to make this happen, and have already gotten journals, some trifold boards and basic supplies to get the kids started and invested $511 of my own money to get a printer for the classroom capable of doing 2 sided brochures, and buy a few additional supplies and materials to embark on this journey that could last a lifetime.
