It's never too early to start teaching children how to keep their bodies healthy. Fitness concepts such as agility, power, core strength and coordination are a few fitness concepts that can be taught to elementary children and have a lifelong impact. These fitness concepts help hand, eye and feet coordination, strengthen rapidly developing muscles and build good habits during the child's elementary days.. The children learn also that fitness can be fun and continue with fitness activities on as they get older. However with teaching 400 children, the amount spent on each one is .25 when spending each year's teacher supply money. So your consideration in this grant for fitness items used to help our young minds get a better understanding about lifelong fitness concepts through the use of fitness equipment is a move to helping the next generation with the education of lifelong fitness knowledge. The Florida C palm standards for teaching fitness concepts are: PE.K.C.2,PE.K.L.3,PE.K.L.4, PE.K.R.6 (substitute the K for a 1or a 2, or a 3 or 4 or a 5 and you have the standards for each grade).

What will be done with my students

By making fitness and fun go hand in hand! Students will be using the fitness equipment 3 days a week as center activities. multiple activities with different focuses help students gain understanding of routines and following directions. These non-intimidating entry-level fitness routines help teach proper form through fun and intrinsic motivation. The teacher will teach each fitness concept based on the equipment and each week the activity will be modified to have rigor for the students so their bodies will get stronger, faster and more agile. Goals will be set by each student and upon completion of 3 weeks of centers, fitness testing will be done to see if the students are on the right steps to ascertain the goals they have set. Modifications of intensity will be done to help students understand the steps taken to reach their goals along the way. After 3 more weeks, fitness testing will be done and students will see that they met their goals through hard work and perseverance.

Benefits to my students

These fitness activities incorporate interesting and welcoming items that encourage movements. Grabbing a colored hoop and work on jumping skills, stretching, or a throwing target. Bring kinesthetic learning into play by using colored foam dice..roll and hop the total number rolled! Designed with students in mind, clear instructions provide models of how to use items to properly introduce fitness to users young and old. Getting the wheels turning while learning new fitness terms and routines, enhancing cognitive and speech and language development. Friendships soar and social skills grow as pals cheer each other on within fine and gross motor activities. It is through enthusiastic physical education that children can learn and see the benefits of lifelong fitness at such young ages!
