Goal

My goal is to be able to rotate my 4 groups of 6 students through computers daily without having to go to a computer lab.

What will be done with my students

I am a 5th grade teacher. Our classroom is extremely thankful to have 3 desktop computers that we currently use in our room. This year we would love to get a grant for 3 more laptop computers to go with those. I have a class of 24 students and Iā€™m honored to have them with me all day as we work through all the subject areas.

Our class is currently utilizing a group rotation to enhance learning objectives. I have several students who need computer time to meet some of their MTSS Tier 2 goals using both Zearn for math and Path Blazer for ELA. With our groups split into 4 groups of 6 students, computer needs could be easily met with the 3 extra laptop computers. The extra computers would increase our flexibility and learning time since we would not have the transition time of going to and from a computer lab. This would also help other classes at the school because there would be more lab time availability.

Since the extra computers would allow for all students to have an opportunity to be on the computers during the day; it would be a boost for my on-grade-level and above-grade-level students also. These students sometimes miss out because of the computer goals that must be met for MTSS Tier 2 students. Although the students can access the computer programs at home, that is not always feasible for them. Parents may not allow them to be on a computer or they may not even have a computer. I am extremely concerned about our on-grade-level and above-grade-level students having the opportunity to increase and enrich their learning through technology. Special projects for ELA and Khan Academy for math would be an effective way for those students to intensify their learning as well. The extra computers would allow for these circumstances to be fulfilled.

Benefits to my students

My class will not have to leave our classroom for computers. That way we will not lose learning time due to transitions to a computer lab. This will also allow more opportunities for other classes at the school to use the computer lab.

Budget Narrative

We would need 3 Lenovo laptop computers to meet our needs. The computers cost $185 each for a total of $555.
