What will be done with my students

Students will be taught individual and group jump roping skills with jump ropes and heart rate monitors. The students will learn basic to complex jump roping skills individually and with partners. A culmination event will be for the students to show off their skills at an event such as homecoming or PTO show.

Benefits to my students

The students will learn the knowledge of this lifelong fitness skill of jumping to continue this skill for the rest of their lives as well as the educational knowledge of why to continue this lifelong fitness skill. Facts about jump roping from the American Heart Association are: Improves coordination, decreases foot and ankle injuries, burns major calories, completely portable and fun, improves breathing efficiency, makes you smarter, improves ability to stay calm and improves cardiovascular health. Using heart rate monitors will teach the student to know where the heart rate is for maximum cardiovascular results with heart rate being in their target zone. 400 elementary students will benefit from this fun filled jump roping unit taught over a 6 week period and have basic-complex skills checked off for the grading rubric.
