Walton Education Foundation

In August of 2019, 0% of my students scored 70% or higher on a district science pre-assessment. My goal is for 50% of my students to score 70% or higher on the district end-of-year science assessment in May of 2020. This grant will help accomplish this goal by providing my class with three additional student laptop computers. These computers will be used during my science block to allow students extra remediation, practice, and enrichment by using science programs such as Study Island and Project Lead the Way (a STEM initiative).

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 40

Thank you so much for supplying my classroom with 3 new laptops. My students were impacted daily! Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, I was not able to see their improvements in the form of data. Thanks again!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

In August of 2019, 0% of my students scored 70% or higher on a district science pre-assessment. My goal is for 50% of my students to score 70% or higher on the district end-of-year science assessment in May of 2020. This grant will help accomplish this goal by providing my class with three additional student laptop computers. These computers will be used during my science block to allow students extra remediation, practice, and enrichment by using science programs such as Study Island and Project Lead the Way (a STEM initiative).

What will be done with my students

By adding 3 laptops to my classroom, my 41 students will be able to spend at least 30 minutes, 3 days per week on individualized science instruction and enrichment through STEM projects. Students have math and science rotations for at least 30 minutes per day. Currently, we do not have enough technology for all students to use Study Island daily. This grant will help provide my students with enough technology so that each student can access Study Island at least 3 times per week. This will also affect an undetermined amount of students in the years to follow for as long as the laptops remain usable.

Benefits to my students

This year, 41 students will benefit from this grant. They will have more opportunities to work on individualized science and STEM programs. The focus of this grant will be to improve science scores. If my goal is reached, these students will benefit by at least 50% of my students showing mastery of science standard by scoring 70% or higher on a district science post-test. Up to 44 additional students per year will benefit from this grant for as long as the laptops continue running efficiently.
