Goal

#1- To improve our student's academic performance while
also improving their movement and fitness levels.
#2- Cross Curricular teaching- Physical Education teachers
can work with other teachers to help improve Star
Scores, FSA testing, Vocabulary testing, and all
Grade Level Curriculum testing.
#3- To improve student's knowledge of the benefits of "good
nutrition".  

What will be done with my students

By purchasing STEM Skillastics and the Pow'r Ball activity set-
STEM Skillastics:
Students will be able to successfully participate in games that teach the skills needed to improve their Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Spelling skills in Physical Education! STEM Skillastics is designed to be a teaching tool where physical activity is combined with STEM specific questions which creates an atmosphere of integrated learning and fun!!
STEM Skillastics has 26 new fitness activities that incorporates STEM learning. How does it work? Each team will have 120 STEM questions. Each team lays their STEM cards on their mini mat. When the game begins, one student from each team runs up to the large mat, rolls their team die and moves their beanbag onto a fitness activity. That student runs back to their team and the whole team does the activity together. Once the team completes the fitness activity, the child who rolled the dice will become the "STEM teacher of the moment". This student will pull a STEM question card that matches the color border around that activity they just did. As soon as they are finished, the next student will race up to the mat for their next fitness activity and they will repeat the fitness and STEM learning process. STEM Skillastics allows large numbers of students to play all at the same time while also working on their academic skills. All of this in Physical Education-having fun, fitness, and learning too!!
Pow'r Ball Activity Set:
Six math and spelling games help increase fitness, coordination, and agility, while improving academic skills. Players race from one end of the playing area to the other collecting number or letter balls, then combining them to spell words and learn math skills! Students will be working as a team to learn to spell words and improve their math skills! The gym will be a place of working on fitness and academic skills!
NutriPlay-Healthy in a Hurry Set:
Teaches students the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods,while reinforcing the benefits of exercise. Teams race to collect beanbags displaying healthy or unhealthy foods, trying to give away unhealthy ones. Students can "burn off" the unhealthy food by doing exercises. Includes 100 beanbags, set of 6 rainbow shopping bags, storage bag, and activity instructions.
*Number of students impacted- 1060
*Number of teachers- 4 Physical Education teachers (as well as all teachers in the school will be impacted by the benefits of academic learning)
*These activities will take place in the gym-Physical Education Teachers will be the responsible owner of the equipment.
*When will the activities from the new activities take place? As soon as possible-P.E. classes will use the new equipment at least one to two times at week.
 

Benefits to my students

This grant will benefit our students in so many ways!!
1. Improvement of physical fitness performance.

2. Increased knowledge of Science, Technology,
Engineering, Math, and Spelling skills.

3. Improvement in our student's teamwork skills.

4. All students will have fun participating in our "new"
integrated academic learning games! More fun in P.E. !!

5. All students will learn the importance of "good nutrition".

Projected Outcome: Our projected outcome includes increase in academic knowledge (Students will increase their knowledge in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Spelling and Nutrition). Students will also improve in the area of exercise movements, running, etc...
*Students will love all the activities if we are awarded this grant! Students will be learning academics, improve their fitness while having fun!

Evaluation Plan:
Measurable Objectives-Surveys will be distributed to all teachers in the school. Surveys will include questions associated with the activities awarded in this grant as well as discussions associated with Star, FSA and general curriculum testing- Surveys will be evaluated and assessed.
 

Budget Narrative

STEM Skillastics- a huge gigantic gameboard/dice/
individual team mats with STEM cards with real world, problem-based activities. Students will perform exercises as they work as a team answering questions! An activity for large number of students! $ 299.73
Pow'r Ball Activity Set-Players race from one end of the playing area to the other collecting number or letter balls, then combine them to spell words and learn math skills. Need 3 sets for use with entire class. Set comes with 75 coated foam balls, 2 storage buckets, and activity instructions. $296.10 a set....$888.30
NutriPlay- "Healthy in a Hurry Activity-Students race to end of the playing area and collect beanbags displaying healthy and unhealthy foods-while trying to give away the unhealthy ones. Lesson will involve good nutritional habits- what is healthy and what is unhealthy. Students will learn the benefits of good nutrition! Equipment includes 100 beanbags, set of 6 rainbow shopping bags, storage bag, and activity instructions. $299.73
Total of Project: $1,457.13
Comments: There is such a need in our schools to include academic learning in all areas of our student's learning environment. Physical Education is a perfect place to allow academic learning to take place-as well as improving fitness and having fun! Our students (and teachers) will be so excited if we receive this grant! This grant will be very beneficial to our students!
