Walton Education Foundation

I would like to take my students on field trips to enhance students learning in science related to learning objectives in our science classes. The grant would be used to cover all cost of the field trips so that every student would have an opportunity to experience learning in a different way. One example of a field trip would be to Gulf World.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I would like to take my students on field trips to enhance students learning in science related to learning objectives in our science classes. The grant would be used to cover all cost of the field trips so that every student would have an opportunity to experience learning in a different way. One example of a field trip would be to Gulf World.

What will be done with my students

Students will be given an assignment that is linked to the field trip location. Then they will travel to this location with the school to experience science first hand.
Example of Assignment:
Students will research animals and information that is relevant to their grade level standards. The students will then go to Gulf World and see animals and apply their new knowledge to the animals in real life. After their trip to Gulf World students will pair off to complete a project to demonstrate the knowledge they have gained. The classroom lessons will be taught during the second nine weeks and the trip would take place in December.

Benefits to my students

Excitement and hands on learning. Also, it is proven through research that students learn best when they are applying the knowledge learned and can find real world examples to tie to classroom learning.

Budget Narrative

The cost for transportation is lower than expected because we have a staff member who has volunteered to drive the bus. We plan to take our students to experience Gulf World in Panama City, Florida. In addition, we would like to allow our students to have lunch at Gulf World. Any monies remaining, would be used to further the academic learning experiences for our students within the classroom.
