OBJECTIVES:

nutrition and its lifetime benefits.
-Students will learn the difference in "healthy" and
"unhealthy" foods.

while learning about good nutrition.

food groups.
-Cross-Curricular teaching-While teaching our students
about nutrition-Physical Education teachers
will work with other teachers to help improve Star
Scores, FSA testing, Vocabulary testing, and all grade
level curriculum testing.

The students loved the equipment we bought with the grant!  Not only did they learn valuable  information about certain foods and nutrition- but they were physically active while doing it!  Thanks so much Walton Education Foundation!

 

Original Grant Overview

Goal

while learning about good nutrition.
-To improve student's knowledge of the "My Plate"- 5
food groups.
-Cross-Curricular teaching-While teaching our students
about nutrition-Physical Education teachers
will work with other teachers to help improve Star

What will be done with my students

- By purchasing the "Nutriplay" Physical Education equipment-Students will be able to successfully participate in games that will teach students the importance and benefits of good nutrition! The Nutriplay equipment is designed to provide students with the combination of improving a student's knowledge of nutrition and also to increase a student's fitness level!
-On Nutriplay "My Day" Game- Students learn about recommended daily food allowances in a relay-style activity.
Teammates will race to gather servings from all 5 food groups! (set includes 6 slider cards, 141 molded foods, and activity instructions)
-In the Nutri "Knock Down Activity" set- Aim for good choices!! Students learn about food groups and eating well-balanced diets with a fun twist on bowling! Teams try to knock down their food group pins while the junk food taggers block the balls from hitting the pins! (set includes 20 food pins, 2 junk food pinnies,12 rainbow foam balls, and activity instructions).
-In the Nutriplay "Roll-N-Fit set- students roll their food group dice and land on one of five food groups with an included exercise. The teacher rolls the numbered "teacher" die, and the number it lands on is the number of reps students perform of the exercise listed on their die! Land on the junk food side- perform double. The first team to roll a balanced diet wins! (pack includes teacher die, 5 food group dice, and activity instructions).
-Nutriplay Coated Foam Food Group Balls-( 3 sets- includes coated fruit, vegetable and junk food coated balls)- Students will use the food group balls to play activities associated with knowing the difference in good nutrition (fruits and vegetables) and bad (junk food)- activities include: team relays, tag games and collaborative team games!
All activities will focus on various aspects of nutrition and the differences of healthy and unhealthy foods, while reinforcing the benefits of exercise.

Number of students currently impacted: 925
Number of teachers-4 Physical Education teachers (as well as all teachers in the school will be impacted by the benefits of academic learning.
These activities can take place in the gym-Physical Education teachers will be the responsible owner of the equipment. New equipment will be made available to all teachers to use in the classroom or recess!
When will the activities from the new equipment take place? As soon as possible!






 

 

Benefits to my students

This grant will benefit our students in so many ways!!
1. Improvement of physical fitness performance while
increasing knowledge about nutrition.
2. Improvement in our student's teamwork skills.
3. Student's will be able to give examples on what a
"healthy" food is and a "nonhealthy" food.
4. Students will be able to name foods in all 5 food groups.
5. Students will learn about daily food allowances.
6. Students will be able to name benefits of good nutrition.
7. All students will have fun while exercising and learning
about "good" nutrition!

Projected Outcome: Our projected outcome includes increase in academic knowledge (in the area of nutrition). Students will also improve in the area of exercise and movement, running, etc...
*Students will love all the new equipment and activities if we are awarded this grant! Students will be learning academically while improving their fitness and also having fun!
Evaluation Plan: Measurable objectives-Surveys will be distributed to all teachers in the school. Each teacher will be given pre and post surveys. Surveys will include
questions associated with the activities in this grant as well as discussions associated with Star, FSA, and general curriculum testing and how it relates to curriculum associated with health and nutrition- Surveys will be evaluated and assessed. Physical Education teachers will observe students for improvement in fitness, knowledge of nutrition, and overall team work. Feedback from students will be acknowledged as well. Success will be based on information collected from teacher surveys, observations from Physical Education teachers, and feedback from students.

Nutriplay Nutri Knock Down Set: Students learn about food groups and eating a balanced diet! Teams try to knock down their food group pins while the junk food taggers block the ball from hitting the pins! Pack includes 20 food pins (4 for each food group), 2 junk food pinnies, 12 rainbow foam balls, 2 mesh bags, and activity instructional booklet $419

Nutriplay My Day Set: Students learn about recommended daily food allowances in a relay style activity! Players slide their card to find their recommended daily food allowances based on gender, age, and activity level. Teammates then race to gather servings from all 5 food groups. The first team to gather its total wins! Pack includes 6 slider cards, 141 molded foods, 1 mesh storage bag, and an activity booklet. $ 399
