Goal

The Emerald Coast Middle School School Improvement Plan for the 2020-2021 school year states, "Science teachers will provide at least 8 high level hands-on science lab activities for all students, including virtual labs and demonstrations."

What will be done with my students

Generation Genius will be available to all science teachers and students at ECMS. Since students are now 1:1 with devices, this resource can be used in a multitude of ways. Science teachers can present in person (or choose to assign) virtual labs, videos, and reading assignments paired with higher level questions. Quizzes and exit tickets can be assigned online or printed on paper. All lesson plans include a hands-on activity to go along with the video and reading assignments. All lesson plans follow the 6E model: engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate, extension.

Benefits to my students

Generation Genius is a K-8 teaching resource that brings school science standards to life through fun and educational videos paired with lesson plans, activities, quizzes, reading material and more. The curriculum aligns with 92% of the Florida Next Generation Sunshine State Standards. The videos are produced in partnership with the National Science Teaching Association, and aligned to standards in all 50 states. Over 20,000 schools are using Generation Genius and 92% of students surveyed said, "it helped them learn.".
