The Alys Foundation - $984.62
My class has 12 students from the ages of 3 to 6. Currently, 9 out of 12 of my students scored below expectations in the Bright Beginning Math Assessment. I will use the translucent building bocks, geometric shapes, pebbles and tubes to enhance learning through deeper thinking projects in the area of math through our play base activities. I plan to bring the students in on a daily basis with sensory issues and help them develop social learning skills like negotiating and sharing. I plan to try to use the sensory and light table to help them to relax, focus and calm down. My goal is to decrease their fears and play more naturally and I will tract they progress by using checklists.
These translucent materials will be used to challenge each student in helping them count, make patterns, match and etc. Various sensory activities (sand, water, shaving crème, etc.) will be incorporated to enhance their learning environment. They will use their imaginations to explore and create at their own pace. They will play with numbers, make patterns, measure, count and build. Children learn through play and the translucent materials, sensory table, light table, and STEM activities foster this. I have seven centers that I use to teach the students through various play-based activities. These items will be in my science, exploration, blocks and math centers. The students visit and play in the centers every day at school for around 30 to 45 minutes. I rotate the centers weekly so that they all get a turn to learn from each center and from each other and on Friday's I allow them to pick their own center.
These tools will benefit the students. They will work on a STEM activities which involves teamwork and hands-on highly engaging learning. The these items will help increase the WOW and Bright Beginnings Assessments scores which is what our county pre-K program uses 3 times a year. Children learn through play and this will make it fun, exciting and engaging. It will help each student scaffold to the next learning level. These items will help me differentiate my high students and well as my low students. I collaborated with colleagues to see what each teacher felt the students in their classes would benefit from. So this will not only benefit my class, I plan on sharing my sensory table and translucent materials with my colleagues.
