Walton Education Foundation

This grant is to provide additional iPads in the classroom for students on all different reading ability levels to use during literacy station rotations, create research projects, and use various apps for enrichment. Currently 29% of my students are performing below grade level expectations on their STAR reading assessment. Having additional technology available in the classroom, students will have access to curriculum based programs for reteaching or enriching academic learning abilities. By end of year, my goal is for 80% of students to meet grade level expectations with use of explicit online instruction during small groups.

Goal

This grant is to provide additional iPads in the classroom for students on all different reading ability levels to use during literacy station rotations, create research projects, and use various apps for enrichment. Currently 29% of my students are performing below grade level expectations on their STAR reading assessment. Having additional technology available in the classroom, students will have access to curriculum based programs for reteaching or enriching academic learning abilities. By end of year, my goal is for 80% of students to meet grade level expectations with use of explicit online instruction during small groups.

What will be done with my students

My students will use these additional iPads in small groups, create research projects, and have access to enrichment apps.

Benefits to my students

Currently I have 4 iPads and 5 laptops in my classroom with 17 students per class, which makes it challenging for all students to have access to technology throughout the day/week. Rotations are crucial for students to work with the teacher, peers, or independently. Allowing more students access to technology daily, will create opportunity for them to work on research projects, computerized programs, and enrichment apps.

Our county uses Compass Learning which is a standard based program and correlated to their STAR reading scores that we take quarterly. Students having access to this program would support them on reaching their individual goals of increasing their percentile ranks, reteaching standards to students that are struggling or enrich those who are ready for higher level performance standards.

Some programs that the English-language learners utilize are Imagine Learning and Google Translate. Imagine Learning is a researched-based program that teaches language acquisition skills in an engaging way. I utilize google translate to scan my assessments and translate into my student's native language for them to be assessed on what they truly know.

In addition to the increased use of curriculum based programs during small group time, these iPads would also be used during whole group time. An engaging way that I would use them during whole group is to play Kahoot! Kahoot is an interactive game that is used to review material before an assessments.

Students will also be able create research projects by traveling virtually using assigned links to watch videos from Safari Montage on the different state landmarks, culture, climate, products, and natural recourses though out the regions. Later in the year, we will travel to the White House to learn about the branches of government.
