Walton Education Foundation

My goal is to promote engagement in the classroom through the use of technology. It is well known that students learn better when they are having fun. That's exactly what I want to do, allow students to have fun in the classroom to help them excel. I already implement various engagement strategies with my students. They can be as simple as having the students sit on top of their desks for a change or as complicated as creating an escape room to cover the content in an exciting and unique way. While my goal is for all students to be engaged, the focus of this grant is on low performing students. I have found that my low performing students are the ones that are reluctant to participate, often off-task, and have little confidence in their ability to succeed. With this grant I will be able to buy supplies that will encourage engagement of these harder to reach students, which will promote academic growth.

Goal

What will be done with my students

I currently have two classes with 19 students per class. This grant will reach 38 students this year, and an unlimited number of students in the future. This year alone, my students range from the 1st percentile to the 99th percentile, academically. I have a mix of genders, races, English language learners, low- income, and students with exceptionalities. For my students, I hope to purchase two iPads and one set of All in Learning Clickers. The clickers are an engaging way to quickly collect data. The iPads can be used for many engaging programs such as Zearn, Kahoot, and Xtra Math.

Benefits to my students

The funding of this grant will benefit 38 students this year. Students will be able to have access to individualized learning programs with the iPads. The clickers will allow frequent checks for understanding with immediate feedback provided.
