To have students participate in and understand the ability of someone to produce food for themselves and their family with little or no farmable land.
Students will monitor nuturients in water, compare and contrast different types of vegestables with different types of fish supplying the fertilizer and nutrients, comparing the aquaponic indoor sytem to an outdoor hydroponic system. They will take knowledge and information and scale up to a larger outdoor operation. Students will study the importace of water management and conservation.
Most students will live on a small lot or small acerage, this will begin to open their eyes in the area of sustainable farming as well as Urban agriculture. It could and should motivate them to better living through healthier, organic food. They will see how to have a contant vegestable source as well as meat source. They will begin to study the benefits of water management and conservation.
