Walton Education Foundation

Our goal is to provide our students with the experience of a library; the crossroads to success where they can experience the thrill of perusing the stacks to find inspirational people, stories of empowerment, and the knowledge to believe they can succeed, by opening a book, to open their mind.
Our school does not have a library, but we are repurposing a room for the "Touchstone to Self Knowledge", the quintessential library! We have procured shelves, a low cost library software system, and some donated fictional paper back books. We are working on obtaining some autobiographies, non-fiction, and other books to balance out our library. We are seeking to set up a fully functioning library with periodicals, books, check out system, and lounge and study area.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 85

Students actively participated in the library process by learning how to catalog books, shelve books, check them out, and work in the library as well as sit to study, read for enjoyment, and enjoy the bookstore vibe of exciting books joining our stacks consistently. They are now able to request books, search for inspirational autobiographies and biographies of people just like them who chose to pursue their dreams and passions and made it!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

What will be done with my students

Students will take part in the library process by learning how to catalog books, shelve books, check them out, and work in the library as well as sit to study, read for enjoyment, and enjoy the bookstore vibe of exciting books joining our stacks consistently. They will be able to request books, search for inspirational autobiographies and biographies of people just like them who chose to pursue their dreams and passions and made it!

Benefits to my students

Literacy culture at it's best. They will experience all aspects of finding, shelving, cataloging, reading, mentoring others, all in the culture of reading for knowledge, entertainment, empowerment, and to learn and grow their own student climate based on the touchstone of literacy.

Budget Narrative

We will use every dollar to purchase current books of student interest (they have already filled out student inventories on interests), and the Dewey Decimal system will be utilized to ensure a diverse makeup of book types inclusive to all students. Thank you
