Walton Education Foundation

Florida Power has created an Energy Interdisciplinary unit of study that fosters critical thinking skills, increases vocabulary, stimulates communication skills, and encourages students to transfer knowledge as students ask, explore and assess what they know and what they have learned.
We are asking for a grant to help with expenses for purchasing materials to go along with the lessons created by FL Power. Our goal is to engage students in the fifth grade common core standards, along with some third and fourth grade standards to prepare them for the Science FSA in the spring. Our goal is to increase our score to 63% in science. We also plan on giving three benchmark tests throughout the year (beginning, middle, end) and hope to see a 10% improvement with each one.

What will be done with my students

We will use the materials purchased with this grant to provide activities that allow for critical thinking and further understanding of content taught on different forms of Energy. This will cover several standards in our curriculum.

Benefits to my students

Better understanding on fifth grade energy science standards
Review third and fourth grade standards that relate to different forms of energy.
Increased scores on FSA in the spring (goal 61% in 2020 to 63% in 2021)
Students will be more engaged in science content by having materials to participate in engaging hands on lessons.
Improved scores on each of the three benchmark tests for the 2020-2021 school year (goal 10% improvement with each test)

Budget Narrative

There are over 100 students in fifth grade. Each lesson created by Florida Power requires materals for students to complete lessons. This grant is asking for the money to cover the expenses for enough materials for all students. These materials would help us teach the lessons and activities created by Florida Power. This will help our students have a better understanding of Forms of Energy.
