Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 511

Students have enjoyed utilizing their new library makerspace. Students have engaged by creating light up cards, making bath bombs and building legos on the lego wall. Thanks to the WCEF, students will continue to engage in the makerspace next year with various projects. Our space is organized and ready for usage. Students have a space to be creative and exercise their brains in an engaging and fun way.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

1: Bring more students into the library.
2: Provide a creative and engaging hands-on educational space.

What will be done with my students

Students will voluntarily participate in STEAM activities in the library makerspace. The space will be available in the mornings before school, during lunch and normal school hours. A mix of open ended activities and structured activities will be available for students.

2021 Monthly Plan:
September: LEGO my library (engineering)
October: Halloween bath bombs (chemistry)
November: Light Up Holiday Cards (paper circuits, electricity)

Benefits to my students

"Giving students occasions to learn through play not only fosters creative thinking, problem solving, independence, and perseverance, but also addresses teenagers’ developmental needs for greater independence and ownership in their learning, opportunities for physical activity and creative expression, and the ability to demonstrate competence." (Conklin, 2015)
