Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 40

92% of my fifth grade students made a year's growth from their fourth grade end of year STAR Reading Test Score to their fifth grade end of year STAR Reading Test Score.

In addition, they have become engaged in reading at a much higher level.  Every student in my class now has a favorite author, series, or book and now are always able to have a book to read in their possession.

My students are now engaged in engaging texts!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My long term goal is for 80% of my students to show one year of growth on their STAR Reading assessment. My short term goal is for my students to be engaged in reading interesting and complex texts.

What will be done with my students

With these funds I will purchase a fifth grade classroom library. We will read these passages daily, practice specific Florida B.E.S.T. reading standards, and then incorporate these passages into our writing and social studies lessons.

Benefits to my students

My students need interesting and complex texts for two reasons: 1. So they are engaged in the reading and develop a love for reading. 2. So they can practice their higher order thinking skills using nonfiction passages.

I am new to this school and have a very limited classroom library. This will help my students to have the books they need to reach their goals and develop a lifelong love of reading.

Budget Narrative

These are books my students asked for in our classroom library. They are high-interest, complex texts that will engage my students and help them practice the Florida B.E.S.T. standards as well as critical thinking skills.
