Goal

Take a musical step above our current music curriculum offering for grades 3-5 by adding the use of quality instrument instruction through the use of guitars. Guitar is an instrument regarded by all grades as cool.  

 

What will be done with my students

My students will learn the use and care of guitar as an instrument. This will be done in small and large group study. This will begin immediately with the purchase of the guitars. Instruction will be added as a block of time in normal classroom instruction. We will also offer an after school option for students wanting to go further in guitar learning. The purpose is to help the student build a working knowledge and love for the instrument. I will use direct instruction and available video online materials.  

 

Benefits to my students

Learning guitar helps students with eye-hand coordination, tempo paced reading skills, community and individual goal building skills and whole brain skills growth. The use of guitar will impact my 3-5 grade students. (Approx. 225 students)  

 

Budget Narrative

This grant would be used to purchase 7 guitars and cases to be used as a starting point for a guitar curriculum addition.
