Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 47

The outcome that we achieved with the use of the STEM activites that we purchased was absolutely phenomenal. The students really enjoyed using these STEM activites as extra support for their science standards that they have been taught.  Some of the activites that were included in these kits was a realistic human torso so the students could "dissect" the body and study the organs, there was also activites that focused on forces and motion, and global challenges.

We used the activites during our Science Bootcamp to help the students prepare for FSA by completing hands on activites. The students data proved that these activites really help to improve the students scores. Our Fifth grade students were administered a beginning, middle, and end of year district created assessment. On the beginning of the year we had less than ten percent of our fifth grade students who scored a 70% or higher proficiency level, and on the end of the year assessment 79% of the fifth graders tested scored a 70% or higer proficiency level.

Original Grant Overview

Our schools prides itself on challenging our students to be creative thinking and solve higher order thinking questions throughout their educational endeavors. Providing students with opportunities to complete STEM activities gives them opportunities to work together to complete higher order thinking tasks. What will be done with my students

If this grant is awarded our students would use these activities in our classroom as supplemental activities along with our Science Curriculum to integrate technology, math, and engineering into our Science lessons. We will also use these hands on activities as part of our FSA Bootcamp activities to help the students prepare for FSA. These STEM activities would foster ingenuity, build resilience, encourage experimentation and team work along with problem solving.

Benefits to my students

Currently there are fifty-one students and three teachers that would benefit from these STEM Kits. These STEM kits will remain with the teachers from year to year, therefore many more students will be impacted by them throughout the years. By the end of the year, 80% of students that use the STEM Kits in our classroom will show an increase on their end of the year Science District Assessment from their beginning of the year Science District Assessment.
