Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 18

At the beginning of our school year, 2021, there were 37% of my students scoring in the urgent intervention category of STAR Reading.  By May 2022, I had 83% of my students scoring at or above grade level on Star reading.  This was a huge increase that made my students "feel" successful!  We started the year with a classroom that didn't have enough computers for my low performing students to practice reading skills on, but ended the year with ipads that made up the difference for all of my children. I have attached some photos of our camp read alot that my students participated in.  Each child had a campsite, flashlight, and ipad to use throughout the day to practice reading skills.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I currently have 37% of my students who have scored as needing urgent intervention/intervention on the August 2021 STAR Reading Assessment. My goal is to have these students score at a minimum of intervention/watch by May 2022 on the STAR Reading Assessment. I aspire to help each child become a successful reader which will encourage a successful future for him or her.

What will be done with my students

These students will receive daily reading intervention through the use of My Path Reading. My Path Reading is an individualized learning path computer program created for each student through the use of the STAR reading assessment. STAR reading assesses the needs then creates lessons for remediation of those skills. My Path contains an amazing library of content for struggling students that encourages content at their age level even though he/she may be behind.

Benefits to my students

We currently have 4 laptops in our classroom. We borrow 3 laptops each day for all 7 students to receive the My Path intervention. Purchasing 2 more laptops and an iPad for my classroom would guarantee these children are able to receive daily reading intervention. It will also guarantee enough computers for my students who are now on watch or at/above the benchmark level. This technology would benefit all of my students daily.
