Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 14

At the beginning of the school year 2021 as evidenced by STAR Reading data, only 25% of my students were reading at or above the 50 percentile. After using many multisensory learning strategies which include a listening station so that students could hear appropriate grade level reading being modeled, I truly feel that this station rotation made a huge difference on my overall STAR Reading data at the end of the year.  Recently I administered the fourth and final STAR Reading Test to progress monitor my students' reading level.  I am ecstatic to report that 79% of my class is now reading at or above the 50 percentile!  That is 11 students out of 14 have made huge strides in their individual reading success.  Thanks again for supporting our fabulous fourth graders at Paxton School.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My GOAL for my fourth grade students is that they will increase their reading comprehension and math skills by at least 5% as evidenced on the STAR-county required- spring test 2022 which is one indicator of student's success throughout the year.
Projected Outcome and Output- To instill a love of reading and to become a lifetime learner with 21st century math skills and have fun, meaningful activities while doing such!
Also, my goal for basic multiplication mastery for my students is 100% on a 5 minute timed quiz by the end of the year.

What will be done with my students

ACTIVITIES- Individual and Small Group Learning Stations-
Students will listen to stories on CD's. Then students will retell the story with a friend in the group. Lastly, the students will write a summary of the story that they just listened to in their writing journal. The students will
practice using reading and writing skills that will be tested on the FSA- our state mandated test that fourth grade students need to show proficiency on in the Spring of 2022.
I will be responsible for integrating these daily activities in the school day during our small group STATION ROTATIONS from 8:00 - 9:30. These activities will take place daily in designated small group areas and tables during our Reading/ELA block of the schedule.
Use Power pen multiplication quiz cards as a center for students struggling to master basic facts.

Benefits to my students

BENEFITS- ENJOY A GREAT BOOK! Students will get Immediate feedback as they read silently and follow along with the CD. This will help my students' comprehension by the modeling of what great reading sounds like as the reader of the book reads the story fluently.
Students will love getting out of their seats and going to enjoy listening to a story in their designated STATION ROTATION area!
Activities will be hands on with vividly colored books to promote and foster a true love of learning from literature. Studies suggest students respond better to color more so than a black and white worksheet. Listening activities also are beneficial to struggling readers.
EVALUATION PLAN: Projected Outcome and Output- To instill a love of reading and to become a lifelong learner with 21st century ELA skills AND have FUN, MEANINGFUL activities while doing such! Students will complete a survey to reflect on how these activities benefited each of them. Also, I firmly believe that my 13 students' reading score will increase by at least 5% on the county required STAR test to be given Spring 2022.
