Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 69

The 3D Printers are being used for the Introduction to Engineering (IED) class, Principles of Engineering (POE) class, Engineering Development and Design (EDD) class, and the Robotics Club Regional Competitions. An example of the useage is while the IED students are designing and building their Automata's we print 300 to 600 parts that were designed by students within two weeks for that assignment alone. EDD classes use the 3D printers to print prototypes of their design projects (Innovations or Inventions) in order to get the look and feel of their product design. The Robotics Club use the 3D printers to prototype robot parts that will be used in competition.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The 3D Printers will be used in conjunction Autodesk Inventor Software to give students the opportunity to interact with additive technology in the classroom. These engineering career skills will be invaluable to each student in today's job marketplace.

What will be done with my students

Students will be using Autodesk Inventor 2022 software to create 3D models in the classroom as directed by the teacher. The Solid Professor computer aided design (CAD) software training program will allow each student to develop their CAD skills as an integral part of the classroom instruction. Both software programs are able to be used outside the classroom which enables the student to progress at their own pace. In addition to the classroom instruction, students will be able to use this equipment in the Robotics Club competitions. The Robotics Club has mentors that will also demonstrate how the use of 3D additive technologies are currently used in industry and engineering careers.

Benefits to my students

These skills will culminate with the student achieving engineering knowledge using CAD software to gain industry certifications. The engineering design process is a series of steps that engineers follow to come up with a solution to a problem. Many times the solution involves designing a product that meets certain criteria and/or accomplishes a certain task. This process is different from the Steps of the Scientific Method. Engineering projects involve designing, building, and testing. Students will be versed in the process and will take this knowledge with them in their many walks of life.
